MEET THE FOUNDER

MEET Luke Cumberlidge —
Devon Furniture Maker & Joiner

Luke’s approach is underpinned by skilled craftsmanship, thoughtful problem-solving, and careful execution.

Luke Cumberlidge Bespoke was founded by it’s namesake in 2014 from a desire to choose interesting projects and concentrate on bespoke joinery and furniture making.

More than a decade later, that is still the heart of the business.

For Luke, the appeal of bespoke work is the whole process: discussing an idea, resolving the details, developing the design, crafting the pieces in the workshop, and seeing everything come together beautifully during installation.

There’s an element of problem solving in almost every project that he thrives on. Some briefs begin with a very clear design. Others start with an awkward space, an unusual requirement, or simply an idea that needs working through. Either is fun!

As well as enjoying working directly with homeowners to create a custom solution for them that is both functional and beautiful, Luke also enjoys collaborating with other people within the industry and seeing the different elements of a complex bespoke project come together.

From individual pieces to complete joinery packages, we can craft:

  • Bespoke kitchens

  • Boot rooms and utility spaces

  • Alcove joinery and fitted storage

  • Bedroom furniture and built-in wardrobes

  • Architectural joinery - including bespoke doors, windows, staircases, and wall panelling

  • Bespoke cabinetry and shelving

  • Outdoor kitchens, decking, saunas and pool areas

  • Full-house joinery packages

  • Specialist and one-off joinery

  • Commercial fit-outs

  • Office furniture, desks and cabinetry

  • Display furniture, shelving, and installations

We can join a project at different stages, developing a bespoke solution from an initial brief or working collaboratively from established architectural or interior drawings.

Our approach to bespoke joinery & furniture making

We don’t work to one predetermined style, material palette or finish.

Instead, every project is approached on its own terms - taking into account the architecture, intended use, client, materials and wider interior, creating something perfectly suited to the space and requirements.

This approach allows us to work comfortably across both traditional and contemporary interiors.

What you can expect when you partner with us on a project

  • 01 | DESIGNS MADE EXCLUSIVELY FOR YOUR PROJECT

When designing, we carefully consider the space and what the people using it actually require. Dimensions, proportions, materials, functionality and detailing are all considered with care.

  • 02 | EXCEPTIONAL ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Bespoke joinery is often defined by the details you barely notice when they're right - but are glaringly obvious when they’re not. From junctions and proportions to finishes and installation, we take a thoughtful approach throughout every stage of the project.

  • 03 | COMMUNICATION THROUGHOUT

We stay closely involved throughout the process, working through decisions, details and practical considerations with the client and wider project team as the work develops. We appreciate you’re investing in something central to your property.

  • 04 | COLLABORATION

Some projects involve a homeowner and a single piece of furniture. Others bring together architects, interior designers, builders, contractors and specialist trades. We enjoy working collaboratively at any scale, and work directly with homeowners, interior designers, architects, or wider project teams.
